Inspect and Maintain Your Brakes

Family driving on a rainy day

Your brakes are a crucial part of road safety. Brake systems consist of highly engineered components that use the kinetic energy of your moving vehicle and convert it to thermal energy through friction. Your brake system uses that energy to slow and stop your vehicle.

For a deeper look into the process, when you depress the brake pedal, the master cylinder pressurizes the hydraulic brake lines that lead to brake pads or shoes located at each of the vehicle's wheels. Then the brake pads or shoes press against a disc or drum, creating the friction needed to slow and stop your vehicle. Wear and tear to your brake system occurs over time due to the friction and heat.

The warning signs for needed brake system repair are:

  • Squealing or squeaking noises when you brake

  • Grinding noises

  • Wobbling or vibration when braking

  • Leaking fluid

  • A burning smell

Benefits of Brake Maintenance

When you maintain your brakes regularly, it helps to ensure that your brakes engage every time you press down on the brake pedal. Have you ever been driving down a hill and when you need to slow down but your brakes would not engage? We hope you never never experience it.

Not only does regular maintenance help to ensure your brakes engage and perform well – it keeps you, your family, and others on the road safe and confident.
